Statement from the Artist
My inspiration for art comes from Saturday morning cartoons, the Cartoon Network and Boomerang. I love to watch cartoons and because of that interest, most of my work is labeled cartoony. In all my work, I keep my original sketch alive by maintaining a dark outline around all my images. I draw this directly from the artists and producers such as Hannah Barbera, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and the DePatie-Freleng productions of the Pink Panther, the Ant and the Aardvark and my personal favorite, the Inspector.
Once I begin creating, I think of fun things I never tire out looking at. My doghouse contains images of games I enjoy playing, but also looking at. Games such as chess, cards, dice games and even Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. When it comes to Casino’s, I don’t like to gamble, rather I love to look at the Blackjack, Poker, Craps, Roulette tables and the many slot machines on site. Working as an illustrator for just over two years now, looking back on my past work as an art student, one thing stands out the most – the color palette is saturated with bright colors. I also enjoy illustrating type, which is a direct reference from the opening credits from the many cartoons I still watch.
