Statement from the Artist
When I first saw the call for artist for this project I was a little scared. I just moved to Minneapolis in August and I wanted to get involved in the great art scene here and I thought that creating an interesting dog house would be a good way to do that. But I knew that if I was going to do this project I really needed a theme that people in Minneapolis could get behind and support. But what to pick? The Guthrie came to mind, and the Gold metal flour museum maybe. But while those things were great I wanted something that would touch a deeper more visceral cord in people. That is when I discovered sport as a theme. I discovered through walking around town and talking to people who had grown up here that Minneapolis sports teams are the source of an amazing interconnect for the people of Minneapolis and in all of Minnesota. But not just that the support for the Vikings reached across the state in to Iowa and the Dakotas. I was intrigued by that and wanted to pay tribute to fans who wanted to support their team in any way possible. So why leave out man’s best friend? Why not build a dog house that tells the whole world I am not just a Vikings fan but my Dog is one to! I just hope that someone loves this dog house enough to take it home for their own four legged fan.
