Artist Bio
Lahli Trevis
Lahli was born in Farmington, Minnesota and has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Growing up in a rural area helped her gain respect for animals and the environment.
They have been the subject of her work as she developed her artistic skills through her school years until she graduated the School of Environmental Studies at the Minnesota Zoo.
She attended the College of Visual Arts and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007. She is currently creating art in South Minneapolis.
Statement from the Artist
The concept of Rex the Prescription Dog was inspired by my own struggle with anxiety and depression. A tumultuous childhood within a depression prone family changed the day a tiny puppy crawled into my lap and looked up at me. Dieter, my schnoodle, has been a great companion. For the last ten years, he has been a source of happiness and comfort. I was less lonely, I became more social, and my overall wellbeing improved. I have met others with similar experiences and believe that animal companionship is good for our health. I decided to paint my dog statue a prescription bottle brown and decoupage light hearted dosage and warning labels to represent their ability to heal.
